Airlines always require the correct names on your flight ticket. The easiest way to ensure this is by following the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ barcode) on your passport or ID card. Enter the names exactly as shown in this barcode.
Below is an example of a European passport. Different rules may apply in other countries:

The barcode shows P<COUNTRYCODELASTNAME<<FIRSTNAME<MIDDLENAMES. Only the last name and first name fields are required on the ticket in order to travel.
Name changes are not required:
- if you only entered your ‘first’ given name as listed in your passport. Additional given names are not required for travel due to character limitations on tickets.
- if a title such as MR, MRS, MISS or MSTR has been added to your name. This indicates your gender, as sometimes required by the airline.
Name changes are required:
- in case of spelling errors or if your first name and surname were swapped
- if your maiden name appears in the MRZ barcode, but you entered your married name (or vice versa)
- if you entered a nickname, but your passport shows a different name
- and in any situation where the names simply do not match the MRZ barcode
Do you need to request a name change?
All name changes must be requested online via MyTrips and cannot be requested by phone or email (to avoid errors). A name change request is always submitted at your own responsibility.
After submitting your request, we will check all possibilities and costs with the airline. This may take some time, as airlines carefully review all conditions. The airline may also request additional information, such as copies of passports, marriage certificates, or other official documents.
If the name correction is approved by the airline, you will receive an email with a payment link for the total change costs. Once payment is received, we will proceed with your request with the airline.
If your name correction request is rejected by the airline, unfortunately we cannot assist further, as this falls under the airline’s policy. If you have complaints about this, please contact the airline directly.
